Psion Teklogix Delivers Toshiba’s Bluetooth Technology In Its 7535 Hand-held

Psion Teklogix works with Toshiba to provide its 7535 hand-held with Bluetooth SDIO Card providing customers with added wireless mobility
Frontline’s International Supply Chain Week Expo, Chicago, IL, Booth #211 – September 17, 2003 – Psion Teklogix, (LSE: PON), a global provider of solutions for mobile computing and wireless data collection and Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc (TAEC)., a leading electronic component company, today announced that Toshiba Corp. (Toshiba) Bluetooth SDIO Card will be integrated into Psion Teklogix’s newest and most advanced handheld terminal, the 7535. By providing Bluetooth capabilities to its handheld device, Psion Teklogix is providing its enterprise customers with even greater mobility within the warehouse and in the field.
The Bluetooth SDIO Card enables the Psion Teklogix 7535 hand-held to connect to remote printers, cell phones, and any other devices equipped with Bluetooth Radios. For example, the new combination can be used in the warehouse to connect to Bluetooth enabled printers to print tags and labels or communicate with other Bluetooth enabled devices such as GPS receivers. This allows employees to avoid the hassle of cables and wires. The new technology will allow customers to save dramatically on cable replacement costs since it eliminates the need for hand-held terminals to be attached by cables to remote devices.

“Having the added capability of Bluetooth technology within the 7535 hand-held terminal gives Psion Teklogix another competitive advantage in the supply chain and mobile computing market,” said Dan Schactler, director of product marketing, Psion Teklogix. “Collaborating with a market leader such as Toshiba re-inforces our commitment to deliver industry leading solutions to our customers.”

The Bluetooth SDIO Card fits directly into the SDIO (Secure Digital Input/Output) slot on the Psion Teklogix 7535 hand-held terminal and provides users the data transfer functionality of Bluetooth technology wherever they are currently using the rugged device, within range of other Bluetooth enabled equipment. As the Bluetooth SDIO card is embedded in the 7535 hand-held it operates at a range of 5 meters or less making it well suited for applications in the supply chain and warehouse environments. The ability to enable employees to work without the bulkiness of traditional cables provides for a safer environment and poses a wide range of possibilities for the future in the supply chain environment.

“Toshiba is pleased that we could deliver a solution to Psion Teklogix that would meet the demands of the supply chain market,” said Brian Kumagai, business development manager for TAEC. “To have the opportunity to work with a global leader in the mobile computing market is instrumental in increasing the adoption of Bluetooth technology in both the consumer and enterprise markets.”

The 7535 Bluetooth enabled hand-held is available today from Psion Teklogix’ global sales offices, distributors and value-added resellers.

Toshiba’s Bluetooth SDIO card integrates the Bluetooth profile and protocol into an SD-IO card, to enable digital products such as the Psion Teklogix 7535 to easily be Bluetooth-enabled. The Bluetooth SDIO card conforms to the applicable SDIO Specification Version 1.0, SDIO Card Type-B for Bluetooth and Bluetooth Version 1.1. Toshiba is a member of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group and a leading promoter of the Bluetooth standard that launched the first Bluetooth-related products in the year 2000.
