Orange aims to improve GSM coverage for businesses

Mobile phone operator Orange plans to offer a business version next year of the mobile-over-DSL technology it already offers consumers.

The Onsite Coverage service will enable businesses to improve mobile phone coverage at sites in remote or densely-built areas by installing a PicoBTS, or small mobile base station, on or near their premises.

Acquisitions show wireless LAN industry keeps innovatingSeptember 21, 2007 (CIO)

A trio of recent wireless LAN vendor acquisitions is evidence that the industry is still in creative ferment.
Aruba Networks, one of the few remaining independent WLAN switch pioneers, has acquired the wireless intrusion prevention/detection product line of Network Chemistry. Bluesocket snapped up Pingtel, an IP PBX vendor, to extend its Wi-Fi services into VoIP and integrate them with cellular. And earlier this month, client wireless mesh vendor PacketHop was bought by its founder, SRI International, a non-profit R&D outfit.

Aberdeen Group survey of wireless LAN deployments outlines best practices

A study of corporate wireless LAN deployments reveals that the most successful ones are based on a set of practices that can dramatically improve employee flexibility and collaboration.
The survey compares practices and results of companies represented by 315 IT respondents. Best-in-class companies reported consistently higher results in performance measures compared with “industry average” companies and “laggards” in the study, by Aberdeen Group.

Power Wi-Fi using the sun, says startup

A small U.S. startup has announced technology for running Wi-Fi routers in remote places using only the power of the sun.
Among the first round of products from Solis Energy is the Solar Power Plant, touted as being capable of supplying 12, 24 and 48 Volts DC for use in stand-alone applications such as surveillance cameras and outdoor Wi-Fi.
